INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department and Head Men’s Soccer Coach Steve Franklin announced that Blaine McClaine (Crawfordsville, Ind./North Montgomery), Joe Meyer (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and Matt Whicker (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) have signed agreements to join the Jaguars in the fall of 2010 as non-scholarship student-athletes. The trio ups IUPUI’s recruiting class to five for next season, joining John Jordan and Jeff Keyler.

McClaine, a 5-foot-10 midfielder, was a four-year varsity letterwinner in soccer at both North Montgomery and Lafayette Harrison High Schools. He attended North Montgomery his first two years before playing at Harrison his junior year. He returned to North Montgomery for his senior season. He’s was a member of the ODP 1992 Region II team and plays club soccer with Indy Burn.

Meyer, a 6-foot forward/defender, was named Second Team All-State, First Team All-District 4 and to the All-City Team after recording 24 goals and five assists this past season. In addition, he was named Academic All-District 4 by the ISCA and picked as Cathedral’s MVP and Offensive MVP. He helped his Cathedral team to a sectional title before falling to Noblesville in the regional round of the IHSAA State Tournament. Meyer began his prep career at Roncalli before transferring to Cathedral before his final two seasons.

Meyer has played club soccer for FC Pride and been on the Indiana ODP State Team since 2005. He was a member of the Indiana ODP 1992 National Championship Team in 2008 and 2009.

Whicker, a 5-foot-7 midfielder/forward, is also a two-time ODP national championship team member, starting for the Indiana squad in both 2008 and 2009. He’s captained his club team, Hoosier FC, for three seasons and boosted them to a No. 2 state ranking and No. 30 national ranking along the way.

He was a four-year varsity letterwinner for Westfield High School, helping them to a sectional titles in 2007 and 2008. Whicker earned honorable mention All-Hoosier Crossroads Conference awards his final two seasons. He picked IUPUI over interest from Dayton, Michigan and Northern Illinois and plans on majoring in business management or accounting.

All three student-athletes have ties to current IUPUI Assistant Mo Cato. Cato coaches McClaine with Indy Burn and was the Indiana ODP Head Coach that Meyer and Whicker competed for.

IUPUI graduates just three seniors from a squad that earned a spot in the four-team Summit League Tournament in 2009.
