INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI Head Men’s Soccer Coach Steve Franklin announced the signing of John Jordan (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Jaguars, beginning in 2010. The 5-foot-11 defender will be a true freshman beginning this fall and is the program’s second signee for next season, joining forward Jeff Keyler.
Jordan prepped at Lake Zurich High School, helping them to a 21-5 record this past season and a spot in the Illinois Class 3A state finals. After missing most of his junior season to injury, he rebounded by earning All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-Area honors his senior year. He was honored with the Fighting Bear Award following his senior year, voted upon by his teammates based on leadership.
He currently plays club soccer for the Sockers Chicago FC Academy and previously played with the Chicago Fire Academy team. In addition, he’s a three-time member of the Illinois State ODP team. Academically, he intends on majoring in architectural technology.
"John’s going to give us a solid outside presence, either at right back or in the midfield," Franklin said. "He’s played for two of the top U.S. Academy coaches and is a very steady force on the field. He’s nothing shiny - he’s just a good blue collar player. He has the ability to drive a ball and is very tactically strong.
"Plus, he’s plays with very good pace and has the ability to get forward in the attack."
IUPUI graduates just three seniors from a squad that earned a spot in the four-team Summit League Tournament in 2009.
