ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Summit League has announced that IUPUI senior volleyball player
Danielle Goodnight has been named The Summit League Offensive Player of the Week.
Goodnight is the first IUPUI volleyball player to be honored by The Summit in 2009; it is the second time in her career she has received the award.
The senior setter tallied 147 assists over four matches, leading the Jaguars to a 4-0 record and championship at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational on the campus of Bradley University.
For her efforts, which included 21 kills, 46 digs and three double-doubles in the matches, Goodnight was named MVP of the tournament.
Against Lehigh, the senior picked up her first double-double of the season, tallying 14 digs to go along with 36 assists. The 36 helpers aided IUPUI in hitting .339 for the match. Goodnight added 31 assists and 11 digs in IUPUI’s 3-0 win versus Chicago State in their second match of the day.
On Saturday, the Martinsville H.S.-product recorded 39 assists in a three-game sweep of USC-Upstate in the afternoon session before a 41-assist, 14-dig effort in the title-clinching victory over Bradley.
In the four matches, IUPUI dropped just one set. The tournament title was the first for the IUPUI volleyball program since 2005, when the Jaguars won the Dunn Hospitality Aces Invitational on the campus of the University of Evansville. It was the first undefeated run through a tournament for the Jags in 11 years, when they captured the Wright State Tournament in 1998.
The Jaguars will look to build upon their undefeated record when they host the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational over Labor Day weekend. IUPUI will host Miami University (Ohio), Northwestern and Western Kentucky on Sept. 5-6, at The Jungle. For more information on the tournament, click
