INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team has announced that senior
John Bradford and junior
Weston Hawkins have been voted team captains for the 2009 season. Both will wear captain's armbands throughout the year.
Bradford has been the Jaguars' vocal leader since joining the program in 2006. Since transferring to IUPUI from Hope College, Bradford has made 17 appearances in the field off the bench. Academically he's been on the Academic Advisor's List every semester of his IUPUI career.
Hawkins also served as a captain last spring and has made 37 career starts entering his junior year. Despite playing the bulk of his minutes at defender, Hawkins tallied a pair of goals as a freshman in 2007 and had an assist in 2008. He was named to The Summit League's All-Newcomer team as a freshman and was on The Summit League All-Tournament team a year ago.
In addition, freshman
Kyle Hyland was named the Jaguars' freshman captain for the fall campaign.
Hyland was among the most highly touted newcomers in Head Coach
Steve Franklin's recruiting class, having earned two adidas/NSCAA All-Midwest Region awards and back-to-back All-State honors in Ohio. The 5-foot-7 midfielder started both of IUPUI's preseason matches earlier this fall.
The Jaguars close out the preseason on Saturday as part of its annual Alumni Weekend. The festivities will begin with an Alumni vs. Alumni Match at 11:00 a.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium, followed by an All-Star Alumni squad against the current Jaguars at approximately noon. About 30 men's soccer alumnae are expected to participate on Saturday.
