INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI Athletics Department and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Shann Hart have announced that Eric Schellhammer has been named an assistant coach with the Jaguars. He will focus on opponent scouting, game-film breakdown, game preparation and strategy, strength and conditioning, and recruiting.
“I’m extremely excited to continue my career as an assistant coach for Coach Hart and IUPUI,” Schellhammer said. “Anytime you have an opportunity to learn and grow under a coach like Coach Hart it is an opportunity that you must take advantage of. I am also looking forward to helping in the development of the current players that we have and also look forward to recruiting future student-athletes that embrace the qualities of IUPUI and Jaguar basketball.”
Schellhammer spent the 2008-09 season with the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhakws, where he focused on coaching the team’s post players. The native of Grand Ledge, Mich., also coordinated film exchange and oversaw the team’s support staff.
“We are very happy to be adding Eric to our staff,” Hart said. “He comes highly recommended by all of his coaches, and I know his work ethic and ties to the Midwest will definitely help us continue to improve and reach our goal of a Summit League championship.”
Prior to his year at UTM, Schellhammer spent three seasons with the Western Kentucky women’s basketball program, serving as a graduate assistant on the 2008 NCAA Tournament team. At WKU, Schellhammer was primarily responsible for coordinating all film exchanges and film breakdown. He also assisted with player development, individual workouts and coordinated the Lady Topper summer basketball camps.
A 2007 graduate of Western Kentucky with a degree in sports administration/recreation, Schellhammer was also part of the Lady Toppers’ staff in 2006 and 2007, in which WKU advanced to the WNIT semifinals.
Schellhammer began his collegiate career at Glen Oaks Community College, where he was a member of the basketball team; in his freshman season, Schellhammer earned All-Midwest Region 12 honors and was a honorable mention Junior College All-American.
Schellhammer and his wife, the former Jamie Britt, now reside in Fishers, Ind..
Last season, the IUPUI women’s basketball team recorded their fourth straight season in which they reached the semifinals of The Summit League Tournament, their best stretch in school history.
