INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team will open Summit League play against South Dakota State on Thursday in the Jungle with a 7:00 p.m. tip. IUPUI (5-2, 0-0 Summit) is coming off a 70-57 loss at Kansas State on Saturday, but tied the school record with five wins in November to start the season. A season-high 23 turnovers derailed the Jaguars' upset bid of a Big 12 Conference foe on Saturday, although the Jaguars trailed by just seven with 16:41 left in the game. However, a 14-1 K-State run put the game out of reach as the Wildcats kept IUPUI's top scorer, senior
Robert Glenn, to just three points on 0-for-9 shooting. Sophomore
Alex Young picked up the slack with a team-high 19 points and junior
John Ashworth tossed in 14, including a career-high four treys.
The Jags hit 9-of-18 (50 percent) from three in the loss.
This season, IUPUI has been efficient from the floor, shooting 51.3 percent overall and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.
IUPUI leads the all-time series with South Dakota State (2-4, 0-0 Summit) by a 3-1 margin. The two teams split a home-and-home series a year ago with each team holding serve on their home floor.
SDSU opened the year 2-0 including a season-opening win at Wyoming, but has dropped four-in-a-row since. Three of the four losses came at the Paradise Jam, held in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Garrett Callahan paces the Jackrabbits at 12.7 points per game and 6-foot-7 Anthony Cordova comes in averaging 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Freshman Nate Wolters is the team's top assist man at 3.0 per game.
The Jacks are shooting nearly 43 percent from three but allowing opponents to shoot 50.3 percent from the floor.
