BROOKINGS, S.D. - The No. 2 seeded IUPUI women's soccer team got a goal in the 39th minute from sophomore Megan Hock and a school record tying eighth shutout from senior goalkeeper Jamie Farrell to knock off No. 3 North Dakota State in Friday night's semifinal match of The Summit League Tournament at Fishback Park. With the win, the Jaguars will now take on top seeded South Dakota State at 12:00 p.m. CST on Sunday for The Summit's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

"It's unchartered territory," 2009 Summit League Coach of the Year Chris Johnson said. "We're halfway there. Our focus is on reaching the goal and that's winning the (Summit League) tournament and getting to the NCAAs. This is as good of a group of kids that we're going to have here."

On Friday night, it was the IUPUI (16-4) defense that weathered a storm, setting the stage for Hock's timely offense. Farrell set the defensive tone less than 10 minutes in when she made a diving stop of a redirected shot by NDSU's Holly Christian to keep the score tied. It was her first of five saves on the night as she notched her 21st career shutout.

NDSU (10-8-2) kept the heat on throughout, outshooting IUPUI 21-8 overall and 6-3 on frame.

"They have very fast, athletic midfielders and they're a very scrappy team," Johnson said. "They remind me of us last year. A lot of those kids are coming back so I know they'll have a good team for years to come.

"We didn't really let them get behind us, but we had a hard time containing them in the midfield."

IUPUI didn't attempt its first shot until the 24th minute and finally broke through in the 39th. The ball was played out wide to Alicia Brock just beyond midfield, who then cut the ball back towards the middle. The 5-foot-10 forward drew a couple of defenders, leaving Hock open running up the left side. Brock slid a pass to her running mate who flared a shot past NDSU keeper Kalani Bertsch, who was challenging off her back line.

It was Hock's team-high 11th goal of the season and upped her school record game-winning goal total to seven. For Brock, it was her fourth assist.

"It was a great shot," Johnson said. "She really did a good job to place it how she did."

From there, IUPUI's defenders continued to stay between NDSU attackers and the net as the Bison pushed the pace. Specifically, 2009 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Stephanie Hoffman earned praise from her head coach for her play on Friday.

"She played like the (defensive) player of the year today," Johnson said. "She was big time and we needed her to be."

Three different Bison attempted four shots apiece while senior midfielder Leslie Walker led IUPUI with three shots.

The Jaguars will now take on host SDSU on Sunday in a rematch of last season's second semifinal. In addition to winning last year's tournament matchup, the Jackrabbits also won this year's regular season meeting between the two schools 1-0 in Indianapolis, snapping the Jags' 12-game winning streak at the time. SDSU's Kaitlin Justice tallied the game-winner in that match with just 50 seconds left in regulation.

On Friday, the Jacks knocked off No. 4 seed Western Illinois 1-0 in double overtime to earn a spot in the title game.
