INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI Department of Athletics and volleyball head coach
Steve Payne have announced that
Brittany Anglemyer (Elkhart, Ind./Memorial),
Moriah Fair (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and
Alexis Meeks (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) have signed National Letters of Intent to compete in volleyball at IUPUI, beginning with the 2010-11 season.
“I’m excited to be bringing in such a talented class,” Payne said. “They will help to continue with the success our program has installed.”
Anglemyer was just the third four-year letterwinner in the last 15 years at Elkhart Memorial High School, helping lead the Crimson Chargers to the 2009 IHSAA Class 4A State Finals for the third straight season. The 5-foot-10 middle hitter led Memorial with 548 kills as the team tied the school record for wins with 36.
“Brittany will have some large shoes to fill, as we lose our two starting middles, but with her experience, I know she will be able to handle the pressure,” Payne said. “She is very athletic and already plays with a lot of experience.”
Fair led Carroll High School to the IHSAA Class 4A Regional, where they fell to eventual state champion Muncie Central. An All-Northeast Hoosier Conference selection in each of the last two seasons, Fair set school records for aces in a game (11), season (95) and career (210). In Chargers’ volleyball history, she is second for kills in a season (411) and career (902) as well.
A member of the Fort Wayne Juniors Volleyball Club, the 6-foot outside hitter was a four-year letterwinner for the Chargers, being named the team’s co-MVP following the 2008 season.
“Moriah adds height up front for us, but she is also very quick and plays great defense, which will fit right in with our aggressive back row play. With her versatility, she definitely has a chance to help us in many aspects of the game.”
Meeks was a three-sport star at Leo High School, earning letters in volleyball, basketball and softball for the Lions during her high school career. A National Honor Society student, Meeks was named First Team All-Allen County Athletic Conference following the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons.
On the basketball court, Meeks has been named first team all-conference after the 2008-09 campaign and entering the 2009-10 season. With 10 varsity letters earned thus far, the 5-foot-10 setter competes for the N3 Volleyball Club when not playing basketball or softball.
“Alexis is one of the most competitive athletes I have seen,” Payne remarked. “She is going to need that along with her great setting ability to run our offense next year. I have no doubt that she has the talent and experience to step right in as a freshman next season.”
