INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI women's basketball team recently celebrated their record-setting run to the finals of The Summit League Tournament, hosting a banquet at Harry & Izzy's in downtown Indianapolis.

In the team's final reunion prior to May graduation and summer break, the team honored Jernisha Cann and Julia Whitted as the Jaguars' co-MVPs.  Both front court players were First Team All-Summit performers, with Cann falling two rebounds shy of averaging a double-double in the 2007-08 campaign.  The Kansas City, Mo.-native finished the year with 12.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

Whitted was one of the nation's most improved players, wrapping up the campaign with 14.4 points and 8.8 rebounds in her sophomore season.  The Staunton, Ind.-native saw her points per game average increase by 11.0 points, while her boards per game went up by 6.6 caroms.

The duo picked up additional honors, with Whitted receiving the team's Offensive Player of the Year award, while Cann was named the squad's Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior Christina Cunningham, the only starter who will leave the IUPUI lineup, was named the team's Most Improved Player after receiving the Emily Seiler Award on Senior Night for her perseverance through injury.

Nicole James, who moved into the IUPUI starting lineup in January and helped key the Jaguars' resurgence in play, was named the Unsung Hero of the team.  For her play in conference action, James was named to The Summit League All-Freshman Team in March.

The women's team will return four starts from last season's runner-up team - Cann, James, Whitted and Brykeesha Tate.
