ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI freshman pitcher/infielder Amy Raker has been voted 2008 Second Team All-Summit League by the league’s coaches. The announcement comes in conjunction with the banquet preceding this year’s Summit League Tournament, being held at Kathryn Berg Field in Cedar City, Utah.

North Dakota State, the league’s regular season champion, swept the four major awards as sophomore Melissa Chmielewski was named Player of the Year and Allison Bakke was picked Pitcher of the Year. Freshman Elisa Victa was voted Freshman of the Year and Head Coach Darren Mueller was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Bison to a 14-2 conference mark. Because NDSU is ineligible for postseason play, Centenary will serve as the top seed at this weekend’s four-team tournament.

Raker, who was voted Second Team as a utility player, ended her rookie campaign with a team-high .311 batting average and eight doubles. Additionally, she tied for the team lead in runs batted in (15), runs scored (14) and ranked second on the team with a .472 slugging percentage. She also tied for the team lead with seven multi-hit games, including three three-hit games offensively. All three of her homers came against conference opponents as she batted .338 (22-for-65) in 21 conference games.

In the circle, Raker posted a 4-7 mark with three saves in 24 appearances. She logged a team-best 81 innings, had three complete games and notched a 4.93 earned run average. She capped her freshman year by posting her lone shutout of the season at Oakland on May 2, tossing a complete game three-hitter against the Grizz.

She becomes the first IUPUI freshman since 2004 to earn all-conference honors when Sarah Needy was voted a second team outfielder. IUPUI was 11-27 overall this past season and 6-15 in conference play.

Women's Tennis
Sophomore Emily Holsapple has been chosen the IUPUI Female Student-Athlete of the Month for her performance on the tennis courts in the month of April.

Holsapple went 3-1 in singles play, winning all of her completed matches in IUPUI's Summit League cluster, as well as combining with senior Andrea Burkhardt to go 3-1 in doubles action.

While IUPUI went 1-3 in their Summit League cluster, Holsapple was undefeated, downing opponent from IPFW, South Dakota State and UMKC.  In her fourth match of the cluster, Holsapple was one game away from a straight set victory.

The Center Grove H.S.-product did not drop a set in singles play during the month until her final match of the season.

Teaming with Burkhardt, the duo was undefeated until their final match, going 3-0 up until that point.  Holsapple and Burkhardt took down foes from IPFW, South Dakota Staten and UMKC in the cluster, and were one game away from a win versus Oakland.

Holsapple wrapped up her sophomore season with a 7-19 singles record, playing at every level except for No. 1 and No. 6 singles.  In Summit League play, she was 3-4.
