INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the women’s soccer schedule for the upcoming 2008 season, including nine home matches and meetings with five in-state foes. Head Coach Chris Johnson’s team will host teams from the Horizon League and Mid-American and Missouri Valley Conferences this season.
IUPUI will open play with a daunting early stretch of five road games. The 2008 slate will begin on Aug. 25 at Detroit and includes trips to Lipscomb (Aug. 29), Murray State (Aug. 31), Valparaiso (Sept. 5) and Northern Iowa (Sept. 14).
The Jaguars’ home opener is slated for Sept. 19 at Kuntz Stadium against South Dakota. IUPUI’s first of eight Summit League matches is on Sept. 26 against South Dakota State. The team’s annual Senior Night is slated against Evansville at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Oct. 28. Johnson’s team will wind down the regular season with back-to-back road conference matches at Oral Roberts (Oct. 31) and Centenary (Nov. 2).
The annual Summit League Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 7-9. Johnson will announce preseason dates at a later time.
IUPUI returns seven starters off last year’s team including standout goalkeeper Jamie Farrell and top goal scorer MaryBeth McMillan. Johnson has also signed six freshmen for next season including dynamic scorer Megan Hock and a group of versatile midfielders and defenders that includes Margaret Allgeier and Alex Baer.
