Game 1 I Game 2

DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Meaghan Raynes tossed a complete game and went 2-for-2 at the dish in the opener of the Jaguars' doubleheader at Dayton on Monday afternoon as IUPUI got its first win of the spring, 3-1. The host Flyers rebounded in the nightcap, rolling past the Jags 10-1 in six innings.

The Jags played as the home team in both games as the contests were shifted from Indianapolis to Dayton due to unplayable field conditions at the IUPUI Softball Complex.

Game #1 - IUPUI 3, Dayton 1
IUPUI surged out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring single runs off UD starter Erin LaFayette in each of its first three at-bats in game one. In the first, junior Amanda Mackey drew a one out walk and swiped her first base of the season to move into scoring position. After Amy Raker followed by working a walk, Raynes yanked a single to left, easily scoring the speedy Mackey from second.

In the second, Cassie Harvey and Mia Ettl opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Cayleigh Harvey's ground out put runners on second and third. Mackey cashed in on the opportunity, singling home Harvey from third.

The Jags made it 3-0 in the third when Raynes rolled a single up the middle and later scored on Jenny Boyts' double to left.

Dayton did its only damage of the game against Raynes in the fourth when Blair Crabtree led off with a solo homerun to centerfield. It was Dayton's only hit over the first five innings.

The Flyers threatened in the sixth, but Mackey, IUPUI's centerfielder, cut down Emily Stegeman trying to stretch a single into a double for the second out. Rather than having runners on second and third with one out, UD was left with a runner on third and two outs. Raynes (1-2) escaped unharmed by getting a ground out.

Raynes struck out two and scattered just four hits in her first career win. LaFayette (5-5) fanned four and walked three in defeat.

Offensively the Jags matched their season-high with eight hits as both Raynes and Boyts had two hits apiece.

Game #2 - Dayton 10, IUPUI 1 (6 inn.)
UD's Anne Maci had a monster game two of the doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with two homeruns and five runs batted in as the Flyers rolled to an easy 10-1 six-inning victory.

Maci got things going in the top of the first, drilling a two-out, two-run homer off starter Lea Corcoran after Crabtree had reached on a two-out double.

IUPUI (1-8) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first as Mackey led off with an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scampered home on Amy Raker's team-leading fourth double of the season.

Maci and Co. essentially put the game away in the top of the second inning though as the Flyers sent 10 batters to the plate and came away with four runs. Crabtree had a two-run double and Maci followed with an RBI double to make it 5-1 against sophomore Jessica McGown, working in relief. Raker came out of the bullpen to spell McGown, but yielded a run scoring single to Allie Falk to make it 6-1.

The Flyers tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth inning and retired the Jags in order in the bottom half to end the game via the mercy rule.

The top five in the Dayton (12-11) batting order had two hits each as the hosts rapped out 15 hits off four IUPUI pitchers. Eva Rappe (6-6) got the win in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out one.

Ettl was a bright spot for the Jags, reaching base in both of her trips to the plate. Corcoran (0-2) took the loss while Raker fanned five in four innings of relief work.

The Jaguars continue their busy road schedule this week when they head to South Bend on Wednesday to take on Notre Dame. Live stats and audio will be available via Notre Dame's website at und.cstv.com. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Ivy Field.
