SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IUPUI women's cross country team got a career day from sophomore Brittney McDuffee and season-best times from eight different runners en route to a 16th place finish in the Gold Race at Friday's 53rd annual Notre Dame Invitational. The Jaguars posted a team score of 433 in the 23 team event which took place at the Notre Dame nine hole golf course.

McDuffee, who had never broken run a sub-19 minute 5K in her career, crossed the line at 18:16 on Friday, tying for the third-fastest time in IUPUI history. She placed 24th among the 198 runner field and was just 11 seconds off the school record. In addition, freshman Ana Paez also finished under 19 minutes in a time of 18:59.

"It was a great night for those two," IUPUI Head Coach Scott Williams said. "We certainly weren't expecting Ana to go under 19. Even if you look at our top seven, everyone had a good night.

"If Brittney runs that same race at the conference meet, she'll be in the top seven."

Junior Jennie Jamicich found herself in unchartered territory on Friday as well as she turned in a personal best 19:21, eclipsing her previous best by over five seconds. She finished 107th overall. Behind her, freshman Allie McGraw and sophomore Michelle Williams rounded out the scoring five.

Both turned in season-best times with McGraw running a 19:46 and Williams coming in at 20:08.

"We were firing on all cylinders tonight," Williams said. "They're really putting it together."

Michigan State edged Grand Valley State for the Gold Race title. The Spartans had two runners finish in the top 10 for a team score of 76 as GVSU came in at 93. Ayla Mitchell from Osh Kosh took the individual tape in a time of 17:28, beating IPFW's Crystina Martinez by eight seconds.
