INDINAPOLIS -- Returning home to the IU Natatorium, the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell in dual meet with Xavier University on Friday.
Still, the Jaguars swam well, with several swimmers posting new season-best times. Among those was freshman Michael Steurer, who took home three first-place finishes with three new season-best times.
Steurer won the 100 backstroke in 55.26, shaving .40 seconds from his previous best. The Jasper, Ind.-native then broke the two-minute mark in the 200 back with a 1:59.12 and touched the wall in 2:04.13 in the 200 IM to complete his solid day.
Three other mens swimmers qualified with top 10 conference marks on Friday, with sophomore Craig Noakes swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.66, junior Jimmy DuPriest touching the wall in 2:18.71 in the 200 breaststroke.
Senior Josh Riedy received a score of 271.25 off of the 1-meter board, and while it was scored as an exhibition, it still qualifies in the top 10 of The Summit League.
While the women did not have any new times place in the top 10 of the conference, they still swam a competitive meet with Xavier despite falling, 166-116.
The Jaguars had 13 podium finishes, including two first-place finishes by freshmen Kate Stephens and Carrie Ford.
Stephens took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.47, while Ford captured the 200 IM in 2:20.09. In the 200 IM, Stephens was also second in 2:20.48.
The Chesterton, Ind.-native also placed second in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:11.26.
Ford took third in the 500 freestyle and was second in the 200 butterfly, finishing with times of 5:24.05 and 2:19.03, respectively.
The IUPUI swimmers will have a well-earned break this weekend, as the Jaguar divers head down to the Indian University Diving Invitational on Nov. 15-16.
